Michael Overly, Esq, is co-author (with James Kalyvas) of an excellent print resource entitled: Software Agreements Line by Line. The authors literally step you through the "typical" software license while dissecting and explaining each clause. What's even more useful, they provide alternative language (or adjustments) to help those who are willing to modify a frequently onerous license agreement to at least insert a few consumer rights along with all those software publisher-controlled responsibilities.

 

The Institute for Technology Asset Management uses this text as the core resource to our Software License Agreement Detailing component in both the Software & Copyright Compliance Assurance (SCCA) and Software Asset Management (SAM) credential programs. This text is highly applicable even for those practitioners not located in the United States.
